Lunch time tidbit:
There have been 181 free agent acquisitions this season, 9 of which were made today (5% of all of the acquisitions were made today)!
That puts us on an incredible pace. Here are the totals from years past (the ESPN era, 2007-2011) with the respective leaders in free agent acquisitions and their total.
2007: 408 / Gyroball Hitmen 61
2008: 423 / Ship Cool Papas 68
2009: 533 / Wonderboy 78
2010: 473 / Ship Cool Papas 78
2011: 435 / Ship Cool Papas 63
And our current paces are
2012: 592 / Wonderboy 88
You may be familiar with Dan's everpresent quest to be the Swapmaster with trades, but it looks like he is trying to be the one with the most free agent pickups this year and EVER.
Now there seems to be only a little correlation between people who pick up a lot of free agents and their place in the standing, with it being a positive relation (i.e. owners who pick up more free agents than others are likely to land higher in the standings) but it's not a relationship that really stands out as a proof. Especially since you don't see Mahlon's name up there, but he was in the top 5 pretty much every year.
So get pickin'!
